Week of May 9th

We have been getting crops in the ground in between rain showers. The cool wet weather is of a concern but we are forging ahead. We are planning on starting beans the end of the week and have 120 or so acres of corn in. We need the weather to cooperate so we can start spraying burn down on the corn ground that greened up but the cool rain has stopped spraying for weeds. We have however been able to get some custom fertilizer application done so that's a bonus.

Week of May 2nd

Been a busy week around here. Got everything ready to start planting corn. We got the last of our custom spraying lined up done and moved everything home. As of last Thursday we had some corn in the ground. We finally got some of the much needed rain as well. I am hoping by the end of the week to have some beans planted as well.

Week of April 25th

Been a busy and productive week here in northern MI. We have continued to work ground for corn and beans. Our last load of soybean seed is due in the first part of the week. All our fertilizer for the hay ground is here and waiting for dryer weather. Our big sprayer in in Bear Lake waiting for dry ground for a customer of our application business. That means we will have to drag the trailer sprayer out of retirement. We are hoping to have corn out of the bag and into the ground by Friday.

week of April 18th

Field work has progressed ahead. While we wait for mother nature to make up her mind we are plugging away on field work. We have about 100 acres of chisel plowing done for the corn and as soon as it warms up enough to spray the weeds with burn down we will continue. If all goes as planned there will be corn in the ground the end of next week. The winter wheat is greening up and growing nicely and the oats have all spiked through and growing good as well.

Week of April 4th

This has been a productive week. We have just about wrapped up getting the oats into the ground and should be done on Monday. Plans for the rest of the week include getting a head start on tillage for the corn as well as some of the soybean ground. We had a rain Saturday for the first time in a long time although it was only a small amount. More rain is forecast for the rest of the week. Fertilizer is expected to be delivered on Wednesday so it will be a busy week.

week of march 28th

Been a busy but productive week this last week. We finished corn harvest on Saturday the 27th. The yields were good and thankfully the corn was dry enough we didn't have to dry it more. The nice weather we have been having has been a blessing as well. Once we started last Monday we were able to blow right through the last 130ac we have without a problem. Now that harvest is done our attention turns toward spring field work and planting. All the tractors got serviced on Saturday and dad was out preparing oat ground that we hope to seed down on Wednesday.

post for 3-21-10

The weather has been holding up nicely for us the last week. We have all the manure spread and are getting ready to start shelling corn again. This is welcome news for us as we want to get in the fields as fast as possible to salvage what the deer haven't eaten yet. I also have the first load of seed corn being delivered this week so that's a sure sign of spring. Hopefully this week we will wrap up shelling corn and begin to pull soil samples as well.
